I disagree.
The closer we have gotten to pure and unrestrained democracy, the worse things have gotten. Pure majority rule is no less of a tyranny than a dictatorship, and just as arbitrary.
Originally Senators were picked by state legislators, and the function of the Electoral College, to keep small population states from being eased out of the system, is still valid. Frankly, the more difficult it is to pass legislation or gain power, the better.
Anybody who wants to vote can. There are options for voting nowadays if you have no arms and legs and live in a jar of nutrient fluid.
