I think spouses... do have a role in allowing themselves to be victimized and in enabling the behavoir. Still, nobody forces the drunk to take that next drink.

His needs might have been so "out there" that he was afraid his wife would reject him...I'm not sure that you can blame the wife given that "out there" might be "way the hell out there". Or she could have medical problems that prevent her from fully enjoying the experience of sexuality.

I sure as hell wouldn't let Eliot (or any other Vow-breaking POS) off so easily as to say his wife made him do it. That in and of itself would be something an enabler might say.
