I'm getting away from the point you would like to make. I have not heard or read what Clinton said (or more importantly seen whatever policy statement she may have to offer on the topic), but if she said something like 'Use the WTO to reduce the power of OPEC', then its a completely realistic proposal- one not without its costs, but not the 'pantload' sillyness you want to insist it is.
Frankly, though, I don't think diminishing OPEC will improve the situation, and the 'DRILL FOR MORE OIL!' idea is sillyness. Even if we somehow increase our output by 30% (and there is no way we could sustainably do even that much of an increase), it would still be only a drop in the bucket of global output and global demand. And that oil is produced here or elsewhere does not matter much concerning price unless we nationalize the oil companies (which neither you or I want)- its all sold on a world market by private companies. More domestic production would improve our trade balance sheet and generate some more tax dollars- but the idea we can 'pump our way out' of dependence on oil itself, or on foreign oil, is patently insane. There is simply not enough OIL under US soil to do that realistically or sustainably- and if you want to insist otherwise, then you, my friend, are the one with the 'pantload'.
we need Solar, Nuclear and Wind if we're going to get out of this crisis both environmentally (which you refuse to accept) and geopolitically (which you make-believe we can pump our way out of domestically). In the end, Oil is a finite resources and as technology increases our energy demand do as well. Oil is a dead end, even if it is not geopolitical and environmental suicide. All rational lines of thought in multiple domains (Environmentally, Sustainability, Economically, Politically, Technologically) indicate that the smart thing to do is to stop relying on hydrocarbons for our energy. Lets get this done. We have the means right now. We just have so many ignorant denialists in all the domains sitting around saying 'nope! my crackpot theory of (fill in the blank, be it Solar Albedo or Infinite abiotic Oil) truphs your good science and so we don't have to change!... COMMIE!'
