We now understand that Hillary wasn't making up the "vast right wing conspiracy", but with the perspective of a post-Citizens United world, it was only in its infancy then.
I'm in the middle of a fascinating expose of the conspiracy, Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right by Jane Meyer. The general outline is familiar, the construction over decades of what amounts to a genuine conspiracy to take over the government disguised as a network of tax-exempt rightwing "philanthropies". And right at the heart of it are, of course, Charles and David Koch.
Meyer makes a compelling case that there basically have been no genuine grass-roots "conservative movements" ever, that everything from the John Birch Society through the Tea Party has been built in the shadows by this shadowy network of ultrarich reactionaries.
So don't worry that the VRWC will suddenly be lost without Barack Obama. You can be confident that there are hundreds of drones toiling in the right wing think tanks right now to come up with a battle plan for keeping the outrage and disaffection and partisanship alive, and a plan for attacking and hamstringing the next Democratic President, no matter who he or she is.
