Lots of "you" in there, ER, but I think your final paragraphs explains why. I wish I could argue with you, and argue that we don't really have ringside seats at the Apocalypse. But I feel that chill wind too, I'm afraid. But "we live in interesting times" is more than a curse, it can be a consolation.
It's not a certainty, and in just the last day we've seen how events can come at us from left field and not just shuffle the deck, but obliterate it with a chainsaw and scatter the pieces to the wind.
I think it's too soon to really judge the consequences of the dramatic, hell Shakespearian, death of Antonin scalia. I'm already starting to read calmer analyses of how the next year might not be America's last after all. That a careful read of politics, and flawless navigation along the knife's edge by Obama, might actually create an opening for a "Progressive Spring" in America.
Stay tuned. The show's not over.
