The "system" isn't broken. It's looking at some strains, but it's bent before without breaking.
While we may not be able to see how we will work out the differences, there are greater minds and larger forces out there which have a vested interest in holding it together.
And we've lived with large differences before.
At worst, what's to watch out for is 3rd, 4th and 5th parties, and those can be absorbed, too.
The anti-terror laws allow the government to utterly smash any violent resistance in the bud. And by government I mean the military, NSA, CIA, FBI and the rest of the infrastructure which runs things, and not any political party or politician or Congress. That won't be a civil war. It will be a series of assassinations.
