The test of some autobiographies.
Is how they handle the subject's drinking. Now LBJ, he resigned the presidency, where he drank a lot, and went off to his ranch in Texas and literally drank himself to death. Took him a few years, but he had superb health care.
(Got crankier in his later years, too. Apparently ex-Presidents have access to Executive Branch airplanes and LBJ got to be quite demanding.)
Doris Kearns Goodwin was a hand-picked LBJ biographer. She doesn't mention his drinking at all, even a little bit. JFK drew a pass, too, when it came to his drinking and drug use, at least for years.
