What ARE you talking about?
I reviewed the thread, and I can't figure out how you got from
[my actual words] "Does a pro-life stance make you a hater?" Do I have to remind you that a pro-life "stance" has been the motivation for cold-blooded murder on numerous occasions?
to
[your words] I get a little tired of hearing over and over that Republicans are Bigotted Nazi Racists.
It's almost like I'm not actually here, and you're having an argument with an invisible monster from your imagination.
It's not like you're the first Conservative, or Republican or however you label yourself, to be outraged over an imaginary slur. In fact, it looks to me to be a chronic problem, and I think that you(all) are responding to rhetorical manipulation by RightWing politicians. That monster's been planted in your head. It's been done before: Demagogues demonize a group in the society, scapegoat it as responsible for all of society's ills, and above all, portray the target group as filled with hate toward you(all). The end result of that tactic, if it works, is to legitimize the demagogue as the defender of all that is good and decent in society.
A bit of irony in this: Non-Wingers looking behind the rhetoric at the technique handed RightWing demagogues the raw material to spin "they're calling us Nazis!" into a war cry. I've looked at the rhetorical techniques of modern-day RightWing demagogues, such as demonization of Liberals, and seen that they were taken from the same political playbook as used by Goebbels and Hitler (and every other tyrant and demagogue in history). "Jews" and "Liberals" are absolutely interchangeable in their respective rhetorical canons, to use just one glaring example. And when I said so, Wingers turned the Scream Machine on me, totally misstating what I observed...and thus, of course, distracting attention from the substance of what I said.
Yet, if you could forget the self-serving spin for a minute and look at it logically, it implies no such thing to observe that two groups have used similar, and timeless, techniques of political manipulation. It's no more logical than saying that because the US space program was built on German scientists and theory and expertise, the US space program is a Nazi program. Space programs are built on physics, and political manipulation is built on psychology, and both disciplines are neutral toolkits that can be used by anybody. ("Physics doesn't kill people, people kill people")
Logic isn't the point, of course. Rhetorical techniques like that lose their potency when they're pointed out, and the falsely accusing me of calling Republicans Nazis is nothing more than an attempt to keep the curtain closed.
Knowing how the trick is done is important if you don't want to become a victim of politics.
