Here is his policy and it sounds good.

President Bush Attends Washington International Renewable Energy Conference 2008
"...[L]et me start first by telling you that America has got to change its habits. We've got to get off oil. And the reason why is, first, oil is -- dependency on oil presents a real challenge to our economy. As economies grow -- and we want all our economies to grow; we want people to be prosperous, we want people who are living in poverty to be able to grow out of poverty. We want there to be general prosperity, but as economies grow, until we change our habits, there is going to be more dependency on oil."
--President George W. Bush, March 5, 2008

What he says is true, but I don’t see much action on this. I don’t see much getting done. His messages are not reaching the people. What coverage did this get? Maybe a blurb on the news.

He needs to be selling this pitch to America. He needs to rally the American people behind him on this.

He says we need do all these things, and we do. Most Americans would agree. So why is not getting done? He needs to look at why and overcome those obstacles.

He’s been saying this stuff for a couple of years, so it not like it’s a new idea. We can come up with excuses as to why we are not drilling for our own oil, or building nuclear reactors.. We can blame it on the environmentalist. Fine. So we have roadblocks. Let’s get around them.

All Bush needs to do is tell the public, “I want America to drill for American oil. I want America to build new refineries. I want America to build Nuclear Power Plants. But the environmentalist are getting in our way. Help me overcome this. Urge your congressman. Stop supporting anything to do with these environmentalist. Make so much noise, congress will get behind us. Make so much noise that those who oppose
this are not heard. And here is how we can do it…”

“Rest assured that no Democrat is going to open up new oil fields, shale fields, or anything else that involves digging a hole in the ground somewhere. No Democrat is going to push nuclear power like it needs to be pushed. “

I don’t agree. There are Democrats on here that support that stuff (I am defending Democrats. Hell must have frozen over). You may be able to say that about the radical environmentalist*, which many, if not most are Democrats. But you can’t say that about all Democrats.

I think Democrats could be a valuable ally. Get enough of them to support this, and they could silence those who are keeping us from doing this stuff.

Bush could do this, if it was important enough to him. He was able to get Democrats behind him on Iraq. It’s that kind of determination and bi-partisan effort that will make Energy Independence a reality.

*Why do radical environmentalist have so much power?
