re: This isn't just about radical environmentalists

You are right, Bush is not God, but he is the President. And the president has the power to lead.

ER is right. It is about leadership.

I am not questioning his stance on the topic, nor his past attempts to fix it. I am questioning his leadership.

Bush has tried and he has run up against road blocks. I am not disagreeing with that. Yes, I think windfall profits tax, proposed by the Democrats, is a bad idea. We should be encouraging oil companies to drill for domestic oil and build new refineries. I don’t disagree there have been road blocks. We can make excuses that it’s the Democrats fault because they keep putting up these roadblocks. Maybe that is true. But that is not good enough. This energy crisis is going to take down our economy. It’s going to hurt and hit America hard. Excuses are not good enough.

This is about leadership. Bush has shown he has the leadership to get the majority of American, both Democrats and Republicans, behind him. 9/11 was a huge event and he was able to get the whole country rallied up behind him.

This energy crisis is also a huge event that will also harm America. It is harming America right now. Bush could easily get the country rallied behind him. He could get Democrats on his side. America would rally behind him on this. But he is not going to do it if his attempts are not heard by anyone.

When I have to go hunt on the internet to see his latest views, that is not a good indication he is getting his word out. He needs to use the media to get the country rallied behind him. He needs to stay on it. It’s that important and people would follow him. He doesn’t have much time left, but he can get the ball rolling for the next president.

Every president comes up against roadblocks, but it’s the leaders that find ways around the roadblock. Bush could get around these roadblocks if he got America rallied behind him. But that will take leadership. He was able to do it after 9/11 and he could do it again for this crises.

Anyway, regardless of how we all feel on this, we can’t keep looking back. I am turning my attention to McCain and Obama. Unless Obama can show me a better energy independence policy than McCain has, I’ll be voting for McCain.

I fear either is not going to do enough. I fear it’s going to take the private sector and free market to solve this problem, which I think will work, but it’s just going to take a long time and I don’t think we have the luxury of time.
