The reason the Palestinians are reduced to what you deem a pathetic resistence - is because of the nature of the Isreali defense - would it be better if the Isrealis lightened up and allowed bigger and better attacks? They aren't going to do that now are they?
Based on my 25 years in the ME the situation is not solvable without an outside commitment.
Both sides are locked into a death struggle. The only way it could be solved would be a militarily imposed outside force-which both sides would then attack. No outside agency has the desire or will to do that.
Think British mandate.
One good development however has been the realization by the Arab confrontation states that main force resistence is not possible. Iran will keep feeding in material and money until their own state collaspes, to keep the guerilla war going for generations.
