There's even a third level of skulduggery, perhaps the idea is to blame a almost certain GOP loss on the savagery of attacks on the Palins, which can be leavened with gratuitous bashing of the press, the ever-present punching bag of the Right. I've already seen voices on the Right (both in the public arena and in this forum) complaining about the press's and Democrats' unprincipled attacks on a poor teenager and her homespun mom EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN NONE. I haven't seen any such thing myself myself from either the press or Obama, but in January who will remember that? Re-writing history and the self-fulfilling prophecy: No doubt there's a left wing blog somewhere they'll be able to drag up as "proof" of a lib conspiracy to crucify a helpless teen. Not to mention any legitimate criticism of Ms Palin will be lumped in with the alleged pregnancy slurs. How convenient.
At the risk of sounding a teeny bit partisan myself, what we have here is a politico/economic/social class that has mismanged its own hegemony so profoundly they can now clearly visualize their marginalization or downright rejection by the electorate. This will lead to the systematic dismantling of the entire infrastructure they have been carefully putting in place since the Nixon years, their whole apparat is crumbling and they can feel power slipping through their fingers, perhaps for an entire generation. Even their natural constituency, Big Business, realizes financial support of these Bozos is counter-productive for purely business reasons, and they are shifting their campaign contributions Leftward. Bush is the 21st century Hoover, and if Obama is the next Roosevelt, they know the party will be over for their lifetime. They will stop at nothing. They are scared and they are dangerous, and they have God on their side.
