Sarah in her own words
5. Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now - while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.
Anchorage Daily News 10/22/2006 in a candidate questionaire.
I wasn't speculating. The sleazy spin in your quote taken from the McCain campaign Web site is the careful use of the phrase "as governor of Alaska". By the time she was elected, the scandal had broken, and she ran away from the Bridge as fast as she could.
I do, however, have to admit to getting one thing wrong. I said that she'd retained about $25 million of the bridge pork to spend on other Alaska boondoggles. Off by an order of magnitude. Turns out that Congress let Alaska keep the entire $233 million earmarked for the Bridge to Nowhere, which Palin happily passed out for other boondoggles.
