Joe never said he made that much money. He was planning to buy the plumbing business he works at, and anticipated making that much money someday. Whether he does or not, the issue is the same for entrepreneurs across the country.
Biden doesn't have any "Joes" in his neighborhood at all. Biden lives on a four-acre lakefront estate in Greenville (read here how he managed to get it), and any "Joes" he ever sees probably drive quite a while to get to plumbing and other jobs where Biden lives. I'm astounded that he manages to sell his "blue collar Senator" gag to so many gullible people.
This table shows the upper limits on receipts and numbers of employees for what the government defines as a "small business." You can plug a reasonable profit percentage into these numbers and see how many categories come out above $250,000.
Obama is counting on people imagining the "rich" as someone far off on a hill. Kind of like Biden. The last thing he wants is to have people start thinking about small businesses in this context, or themselves, which is why the sudden and lethal kickback on this issue.
Joe's tax issues and flaws have made the hourly radio news all day. Note that the media has already expended more effort in one day on this plumber's anal exam than they have in two years on Obama.
