Could it be that some are thinking of a new party?

After the Mulroney conservatives were decimated in Canada, the Reform Party rose with astonishing speed, fueled by the anger of a conservative base that had great difficulty fathoming why their so-called Progressive Conservatives weren't still calling the shots.

It divided the right for several years but eventually the "Reformers" more-or-less swallowed what was left of the PC party (conservatives under a "PC" banner, is that irony or what?), and so as not to ruffle feathers unnecessarily, they dropped the Reform name.

Anyway, it let the right feel like they were engaged in something fresh and exciting, when in fact they were just bringing the same old steamroller back up to speed under a new coat of paint.

To be fair, though, the process did allow them to sweep house and introduce a lot of new faces and even some new (though typically far-right) ideas, thus distancing themselves from a hugely unpopular Mulroney legacy.

Is Rush positioning himself for a split?
