We can help our party by encouraging it to find its conservative roots. We have become the Democrat-Lite party. A shadow of the Democrat party. We’ll never win another election if we continue down this path. Why vote for a cheap copy when you can get the real thing?
We say we are the conservative party, yet our elected Republicans don’t act like it. We need become the party of smaller government. We need to become the party of conservative values. We need to rebuild our conservative foundation because our party has toppled. We have fours years to do it before the next election. Time will tell if we can do it.
When we do get power again, we need to be more accepting and compromising with the Democrats. Our country is very divided. As long as one side excludes the other, it will stay that way and we’ll keep seeing the nasty battles between conservatives and liberals.
Just because we are a conservative party doesn’t mean we have to turn our backs on the liberals. We must compromise with them. This is not a football game with two sides. We are not teams we root for. This is one country we all share.
Obama says he will end this division. We’ll see if he does. And we need to do our part to end it as well. We need to compromise and find common ground. I think we are all more alike then we are different, yet we have been letting those differences define who we are.
