Assume you do have the technolgy to create a superpowerful laser beam and aim it and focus it down to a size where it would not be diluted by the time it reaches its target. That is still no guarantte the target will be in position to hit years later when the beam got there.
Remember, any targeting mechanism you used would have to communicate with the gunners, so it would take DOUBLE the luminal travel time to get the targeting info back to the gunners so the aim could be adjusted. During the time the beam would be in transit (multiplied by 2) you would have no way of knowing your target hadn't taken evasive action, or put up defenses. You would be firing blind.
And of course, immediately after firing, you would know that eventually your enemy would know your approximate position, so you would have to take your own measures to avoid counterbattery fire.

- Unusual object shooting laser beams to earth
- I could have edited those "lasers" into that clip in about 3 minutes. (n/t)
- Wait... No... Could it be? Could it finally be?
- Luxor Hotel, Las Vegas
- It is an camera artifact, not a laser

- Pray it isn't the targetting beam for THIS weapon
