"DIRECT is an alternative approach to launching missions planned under NASA's new mandate: The Vision for Space Exploration (VSE). DIRECT would replace the separate Ares-I Crew Launch Vehicle (CLV) and Ares-V Cargo Launch Vehicle (CaLV) with one single "Jupiter" launcher, capable of performing both roles."

What is Griffin argument against Direct, other than:
"The current response from NASA for more than a year has boiled down to: "Its what were are already working on. We need to continue. Its too late to change". "

Of course it's all political- maintaining NASA's job program.
Which is retaining the components of the Shuttle program.
So, I'm not against maintaining the job program, but it seems safety is key element. Safety in current shuttle program and safety in the new launcher they make. Which is safer? And doesn't safety trump all other considerations?
