A majority of blue collar workers are worthless. All they care about is getting drunk, high, or both. When I was in technical school getting my degree in drafting, 80% of the people in class were simply there to draw a check. They had no desire of actually getting a job in the drafting field. Every three months when their pell grant checks came in (most usually got $1,500-$2000) they would go out and blow most of it on dope. Weed, crack, meth, and alcohol, are what mattered to them. Many of them had children, but the children took a distant 2nd place when it came to how much money was spent on them.
One woman got a $2,500 pell check. She spend $1000 on dope, $1000 at a strip club, and then took around $400 to spend on her 4 kids for back to school clothes. She openly talked about the awesome "shit" she bought and how it really "F'ed her up". This was a common attitude among many of the "students" at the school. The instructers didn't want these people in class, but they were powerless to kick them out. The school administration wanted warm bodies in the seats because their funding depended on how many people attended. It didn't matter that these people were unemployable, it just mattered that they were there.
For those who attend the school to actually learn a trade and better themselves, it's fairly easy for them to find good paying jobs. Every instructor usually gets several calls a month from companies looking to hire students. When they have someone worth employing, they'll send them out for an interview. If they don't fail a drug test they're usually hired.
