Yah, you said "Majority".
When I took drafting, it was an engineering prerequisite. I liked it so much I may have considered it, if it were a degree program. But that was in the day of the mechanical pencil. I still use it today to draw up parts for the machine shop.
Of course there are blue collar workers like you describe but, in my experience, they are the minority.
