I was just thinking of the more immediate future, assuming the creation
of Artiliects does not happen relatively soon or it is somehow kept
suppressed by those who fear a superior intelligence.
I also figured if I brought up such things most of the readers would roll
their eyes, ignore what I am saying, etc. But no more - plus I forgot
where I was typing. :^)
I do not want to end up like the guys who said man will never fly or
that computers will never find a use in the home.
So, yeah, put a sophisticated AI in a space vehicle that can not only
do things better and faster than any human, but also survive in all sorts
of environments, and we may see future space probes that tell the
organics they have better things to do with their long time spans than
give weather or field density reports and head off to those regions in
the outer areas of the galaxy where their space telescope brethern
have detected something that is only visible in the infrared.
This will be after they direct their nanobots to construct a more
suitable body/vessel from some nearby planetoids with the proper
amount of mineral resources.
Ah, I feel so much better now. If this doesn't happen, it will be all
humanity's fault for not progressing far and fast enough.
