This was clearly a partisan attempt at political gotcha at a time when the situation required absolute cooperation.
Nice term. "Absolute cooperation." Puts some interesting images in the mind.
And why? What "cooperation" is required? Republican votes? Obviously not needed. Republican ideas? Mostly ignored. Conservative principles to balance the socialist spendfest? Completely ignored. Political cover in case it blows up in the Democrats' face? Now we're getting there.
What the Democratic Party needs is a sanction, Republican support to pretend that the "New" New Deal is a big, unified idea of the whole country, not something of Democrats, by Democrats, and for Democrats.
I truly wished the Republican Party would see the light and remake itself to something just right of center where it resided for more of my lifetime but they've decided this is their Alamo.
"Right of center?" Where exactly is that? The term seems to indicate a Republican who either stays out of the way or agrees with Democrats on anything important. What beliefs and principles would your nice "right of center" Republican have that a liberal Democrat would not?
