A lot of people believe that everything is a matter of opinion, and get angry when the proposition is raised that there is a real answer, a "truth" if you will. It breaks their rules of debate to incorporate the idea that there may be objective facts involved somewhere at the base of it all.
You can see the hostility to "numbers" here. As long as it's all about opinions, keeping it on the same level as favorite foods or colors, nobody can be really right or wrong. "Numbers" take it beyond opinion.
"Why do you always have to be right?" essentially translates into "how dare you think there is a right answer?"
Incidentally, I don't define "humanitarianism" and "generosity" as "forcing other people to do good." The core of liberal philosophy does not stand up to close examination, and it's easier for them to attack the process of examination itself, instead of dealing with the facts.
It's one reason leftists feel the need to silence opposition, not meet it head on. Demonizing me into a...what was it? "Greedy bastard asshole?" is part of this process.
Remember, to them, "greed" is me not giving them all the money they want for their own goals.
