Unless of course, they predicted the market crash before it happened. And I don't mean an exact prediction of when and how much, I would have settled for a "something's wrong with the market, I would be very careful investing over the next few months".
What people don't realize is that knowledge of the market is not an objective appraisal of a natural force. People who do this for a living have an ideological stake in how it works, they may talk about what will happen and when, and how much, but it never occurs to them to question the rationale behind it all, whether it really means anything. As far as they're concerned, it's a physical phenomenon, like the weather. It is not. It is a totally human artifact.
Of course, when something does happen, they all have the reasons ready for why it went down, after the fact. My cuz, Robby the Red, has a Marxist financial adviser, but he didn't predict the crash either. It totally blindsided him.
