These guys catch the tide and think they know the tide, they can cause the tide and the tide loves them above other mortals. And when the tide reverses itself, they feel betrayed.
I've met a couple of dot.com entrepreneurs who really thought they were the brightest individuals on Earth. And they not only couldn't see the collapse coming, they took it personally, as if God had changed the Rules of the Universe.
And like pigeons pecking at the lever which once produced food, they keep on promoting long after their strategy stopped producing.
