Businessmen don't want to run the economy.
They just want to compete virtuously and let the market take care of itself. Sometimes the naivete of the committed overwhelms me.
Businessmen are to the economy as politicians are to the state. They are psychologically and philosophiclaly indistinguishable, and in fact, many of those in one profession have spent time in the other, and both are careerists corrupted by ambition..
Personally, I'd rather see artists or scientists running the state and the economy. What they lack in expertise they would make up for by being much nicer people.
