"Elite"
I defined "intellectual elite" here several times. It's not a matter of how many brains one has, it's the firm conviction that one's intellectual status gives you the right to run other people's lives for them. It's not surprising that this conviction often puts these people on the left side of the political spectrum, where having a central authority run things is foundational.
This was the link I used back then.
Not all intellectuals are elitist, and not all elitists have brains. The combination of scholarship and entitlement to authority is often found in academia. The stupid elitists tend to gravitate to government.
