I made this post dealing with the increasing threat of pervasive government control of our lives and confiscation of our property. I talked about my opposition to this, and my reasons.
You responded with "Do the words society and civilization mean anything to you?"
It's very difficult to interpret that as meaning anything other than something along the lines of "pervasive government control of our lives is essential to society and civilization."
I disagree. If that's "defensiveness," make the most of it.
I continue to throw out examples of the government micromanaging our existence and intruding on our lives and choices, wondering at what point any of them are going to get a response other than "So what?"
I remember a long while back when we were talking about having to carry papers to move around the country. Miraculously, Google found the ancient thread, although my original news story link is long dead.
Raoul, European to the core, believed that having to carry papers to travel around your own country was the norm, and even a thing to be proud of. I expect Americans will get to this point soon enough.

- You just drove that point off the road.
- Again, that's not to say the Republicans couldn't have done a better job.
- They don't have idea people. Conservatives mistrust intellectuals. (n/t)
- To drive the point home...
- Damning with faint praise.
