Why claim to be a follower of Christ?
If one had to be sinless to follow Christ, then there would be no Christians. We are all sinners, and Christ forgives us all.
I am not Christ. I am human. I am a sinner and I am not perfect.
I can say I forgive the monster who murdered that poor child, but deep in my heart I know I can’t. That sin is mine. To say otherwise would be a lie. No matter how hard I try to forgive such an animal, I can’t. I am not perfect.
The anger it causes blocks any forgiveness I could feel. The sadness for the poor child blocks it. The fear that such a monster could take my children away blocks it. I have faults.
That is the whole point of the New Covenant. No human can not sin. No human can enter God’s realm based on the Old Covenant. So God came to Earth as Jesus to not only experience life as one of us, but to establish a relationship with us. All he asks is that you believe in him, and you will be forgiven and allowed to enter his realm.
That is what it is to be a Christian…to believe in Christ. Yes, we should follow his teachings as best we can, but no one, no even those who think they are sinless and better than most, can be 100% successful. Every one of us will sin because none of us are perfect.
Being a Christian is not about thinking you are better than everyone else and free of sin.
I am a Christian, and I am a sinner.
