re: A better flu vaccine coming up
At least so far nothing deadly has sprung up without a fair bit of warning, giving researchers time to work on the problems. H5N1 has been circulating for years, so they seem to be getting more of a handle on it, though I wonder if all the vaccines will do much good if anything spreads really quickly. The article you linked to implies a vaccine that could be applied universally before any widespread disease, potentially eradicating influenza in the way smallpox was eradicated. Testing, more testing, manufacture and widespread distribution BEFORE a pandemic would be required for it to be effective. Hope they are successful.
