I think you said it there.

Non-biological disasters are more or less random occurrences as far as organisms are concerned, but overpopulation pretty much always ends in some biological scourge or another... I include WMDs in this category.

As I said to alcaray, I think when apocalypse comes, it will come quietly out of left field and will be over almost before the survivors know it.
