As I recall, you avoided a simple, direct question. We need to know what defines America. And you want to sweep it all under the rug. Old news.
One doesn't torture as a favor to enemies. One doesn't torture if one has values, principles and doesn't want to become like their more amoral and immoral foes.
Is that expensive? Of course, values and principles are always expensive. Should the badguys determine what America stands for and doesn't? Of course not.
Stand for something, or stand for nothing. Why give up our principles in the name of protecting citizens, and then send people off to die for oil? What does that say about Conservative "principles".
Nope. There is a rule of law which is more important than anything else. In the absence of a ticking nuke, or course, or maybe crop dusters launched from cargo ships off the coast, loaded with biological and chemical agents. I suspect they found all of those.
