The Iraqis turned against Al Quaeda
for a number of reasons Tom, not just because they were at odds with their methods and philosophy but also because they were paid well to oppose them. That fact is always conveniently missing from the neocon talking points that push the effectiveness of the surge. Before the payments began, we really saw no coordinated opposition to Al Quaeda elements within Iraq. There were regional skirmishes as there are in all countries so heavily divided into religious and philosophical sects but no central target until the cash began defining it.
Quit rewriting history there guy. We're not buying it.
