I agree with you about the unfortunate outcome.
His father wasn't in control.
But as a mother, I can tell you I was like a mother bear if someone went after my kids in any way, shape or form. It's an in born INSTINCT.

And as for sexual abuse, I think you could be wrong, as some of the most f**ked up people I have run across, come from families of sexual abuse. And even the ones who were just fondled, rather than raped have bizarre attitudes the rest of their lives.

The perp in this case got a beating that may, or may not affect how he approaches other 10 yr. olds. Legally, the dad was wrong, but perhaps morally he was right. Sex offenders are dangerous throwbacks in our society. Basically all I was saying is that this WAS a crime of passion. It's hard to feel sorry for anyone here, least of all the perpetrator. Just my opinion.
