What exactly was causing that situation is the fact that a STUPID police officer was harrassing and later arresting a man after it had been clearly established that HE WAS IN HIS OWN HOUSE!! Gates wasn't acting in a "loud and tumultous" manner until AFTER the police officer was infringing upon his rights and trespassing on his private property.
Was Gates acting like a happy, good-natured person that night? No, he was in a foul mood. But does that mean that if we raise our voices in our own homes, without theatening anyone in any way, we run the risk of being arrested by the cops??? Have we sacrificed our freedoms to the extent that abusive authorities can do whatever they want to us? I think not.
I sure hope Gates sues the police. I'd love to see his lawyer rip that officer's phony police report to shreds in the courtroom. Next time that cop will be smarter, and just say, "Thank you, sir, and have a good night!" and go mind his own damn business.
