Most of your premises are incorrect. This one in particular:
What is needed is a new attitude on the part of Business. The monolithic idea that profit is the sole legitimate goal of business must yield to another, more rational agenda. Not only has this idea resulted in massive cheating of the public, but it has also resulted in massive peculations from businesses.
The minute you start to quantify "massive," the premise collapses. The country is filled with responsible businesses who act ethically, but they don't make headlines. Go ahead. Start listing names of companies that have had ethical issues. See how many of the approximately 5 million corporations in the United States you come up with, or how many of the Fortune 500.
This distorted view of the private sector is pumped into Americans like food down a goose by our schools and our popular culture (both steeped in collectivist ideologies). It doesn't stand up to ten minutes of examination.
