Current Events » in reply to The Unethical Corporations may not be the majority, but they are large enough and corrupt

He has to say that, Dave. It's his job.

Besides, corporations are neither ethical nor unethical. They are totally amoral. Individual owner-entrepreneurs can be good or bad men, but business firms are machines for making money, just like generators are machines for making electricity or boilers are machines for making steam. Morality and ethics have nothing to do with it.

The people who run corporations are employees, people very much like you and me, whose jobs are to keep that machine generating profits. The people who own corporations don't care about morality either, as long as the machines keep on making money. In fact, many corporations aren't even owned by people, they are owned by other corporations. No one is in the business of being good or evil, they normally just want to be given a clear set of rules that will keep them out of trouble with the law so they can make money in peace. Who gets helped or who gets hurt simply doesn't matter, providing it doesn't interfere with the steady progress of accumulation.

We're not dealing with villains, with working with robots, and if you keep the emotional baggage out of the analysis, the system suddenly makes a lot more sense.
