Go to this BLS page and click on "total private employment" and "government employment" (the latter on is on the bottom). When you retrieve the data, click on the graphing option.
No recessions there, eh?
To be upfront about it, many of my contracts in the past have been with companies doing projects for NASA or military, so I suppose that makes me a sometime government employee of a sort, too.
