JO's article was great.
One of the things they are learning is how to design machinery which will operate in space for extended periods of time without maintenance. Or at least what breaks down and why.
Another thing they should be learning is the psychological dynamics of human behavior over extended periods of time. I believe Man is the weak link in space exploration not only because of the physical limitations but because people get screwy in close confinement.
