You stated:
“If you were to put all of the atmosphere above California in a big box, and then add in all the energy released by the ~4 million acres that have burned in california so far over the course of the year ALL AT ONCE you would raise the temperature a small fraction of a degree.”
OK let’s expand your thought experiment and see what happens.
OK now we have three boxes of the same size, we fill one box with all the forest fires that have happened on the Earth during a specific year, say 2019, then we calculate the energy that was released from that quantity, and mark down the number of Joules that was generated. After that we WAIT until the residue has cooled down; say about a year and measure and record the temperature again.
We take the second box and fill that with all the nuclear material that has been and is being used in all nuclear power reactors during the same year (2019) naturally that will include all the “controlled” chain reaction material that is used in all the 440 nuclear power reactors, plus all the other reactors that are installed in ships and submarines. Now we do the same to this box as we did with the first one, measure, record, WAIT and measure again.
We use the third box to compare the energy/temperature difference between all the boxes. We fill this box with the “raw” radioactive material that is mined during the year for use in the power reactors, in other words, no refinement for this material. We measure, record, wait a year and measure again.
The question is: which box has the lowest and which box has the highest energy or temperature output during the second measurement and why is there a energy or temperature difference between the boxes?
We can consider the energy from the sun as a constant; it affects all the boxes in the same way.
I have my answers I’m waiting for yours.
