It's precisely those victories of secular society which are so resisted by your fundamentalist allies. They are the ones who are trying to "bring God back to the schools". You forget Tom, when I went to High School, prayer in the home room was not only permitted, it was mandatory. No Catholics or Jews allowed. I don't know what kind of tolerant, liberal Lake Woebegone Midwest you were brought up in, but my youth was spent in segregated, rural Florida, and I was the only Cuban kid there. Lynchings and cross-burnings had stopped by then, but my parents remembered them well.
I know these people, they are not salt-of-the-earth, down-home, Mayberry RFD folk, deep down inside they're no goddamn good.
Sorry for letting my prejudices show, but as you can see, I actually lived in the Eye of the Beast; it's not just liberal propaganda for me. And you have no idea who you're metaphorically crawling in bed with.
