It's interesting that so many people seem incapable of visualizing a society where someone does not have absolute centralized power. The only decision to be made is whose gang will be on the Emperor's throne.
Conservatism (or limited-government libertarianism) is about freedom, and a government severely restricted to Constitutional functions and protecting individual rights.
In history, the prosperity of a society is usually directly proportional to how free that society is.
To be sure, freedom is messy. It has inequalities, uncertainties, and risks. A lion on the veldt will not live as long or as comfortable a life as a lion in a zoo. The latter will have abundant food, shelter, medical care, and freedom from enemies. Yet somehow I don't see a lot of people advocating putting all the lions in the world in zoos. Why is this?
Capitalists are demonized in a mixed economy because that is necessary to justify looting them when talking to a generally honest electorate. But you don't lose the right to your own life and property simply because you reach a certain income level.
