Re: 9/11 culprits

To the best of my knowledge, no Russian or French partisan went into Germany during peacetime and started blowing up civilians. You talk like we started this conflict.

If you look at it one way, we are essentially dealing with prisoners of war. Even under the Geneva Conventions, there is no obligation to do anything but keep them imprisoned under the Conventions until the war is over or they are no longer a threat to us. There is no right to trial, civilian or military. There is no fixed sentence.

We aren't talking about uniformed draftees who were fighting openly for their country and will happily go back to their office or farm when one side formally surrenders. We aren't even talking about the illiterate civilian flunkies who are talking into putting bombs in roads, or paid for it. The latter are routinely processed through a legal system in Iraq or elsewhere.

We are talking about monster who, even now, are trying to figure out a way to use this opportunity to destroy Americans.

There was nothing wrong with Guantanamo. There was nothing wrong with the military tribunal process. The system was working. These fanatics were kept far away from American civilians, TV cameras, and hundreds of potential terror allies around the world who have only to buy tickets to New York now.

This is just another example of politicians and others allowing their internal realities to overwhelm actual reality and countless warning signs. It's going to get someone killed.
