So I was shopping around for a washer on the internet. The latest Whirlpool equivalent has 6 knobs to control it. Compared to my old version that had 1 knob and 2 radio buttons to select water temp and load size. Also, the new one has a chip in it.
If someone were to design the perfect washing machine - by my standards - It would:
1) Have no electronics,
2) Have one button: start,
3) Would be over built so that it would last for a century or so,
4) Would have a failsafe system to keep small washables from ever getting into the waterpump,
5) Have a power transmission method that never slips or fails, etc.
Sadly, it looks like I will be coin-oping it till I can find something at GoodWill that looks like it has a few years left.

My antique Whirlpool washing machine finally died (for good, this time).
