Don't know nothing 'bout macs, but is there a series of key strokes that could get you to the same place? Because it reminds me of a prank I did once that nearly backfired. I was changing the colors of a co-worker's most used program to a really horrid color combo when I accidently set to black background with black letters. What saved me was that it was a late 1980's DOS program and I had all the important keystrokes memorized and was able to reset the color scheme to something readable (but still annoying).
Otherwise, I once swapped out a screen on a Dell laptop, and it was pretty easy.
