This is a strange mindset: one that automatically assumes the worst of any private entity, and automatically assumes the best of any government endeavor.
One of the things I'm trying to work out here and elsewhere is where this kind of mindset develops. Education? Culture? Media? A rational mind should be equally skeptical of both entities, particularly if they accumulate too much power, but it seems to be a given in some quarters that if government is put in charge of health care/energy/finances/you name it we will enter Paradise. This in the face of decades of evidence that shows exactly the opposite.
The solution to health care is to move in the direction of more variety, more innovation, and more competition. We need more choices, not fewer. Putting things in the hands of a single, all-powerful controlling agency is a recipe for disaster, particularly when the people in charge are manifestly idiots who couldn't even run a McDonalds to save their lives.
