The article made one major point: That Canadian banks are not as much in service to a political agenda as U.S. banks are.
Keep in mind that the financial regulatory structure in this country was not suddenly invented in January of 2001.
Go ahead and dump a thousand new regulation on American banks to add to the thousands that already exist. The new regulations will reflect the politics and agendas of those who create them same as the old ones have for decades, either in one direction or the other. ALL government regulations do this to some extent, reflecting political pull from the government and political pull from private entities using that pull to create a more favorable environment for themselves.
More regulation is just going around the merry-go-round one more time. Have you ever actually LOOKED at the history of the last fifty years in bank regulation? How many times have we been told "THIS law will fix everything, and this will never happen again."
At some point, liberals need to abandon the "all we need are GOOD czars" fantasy.
