We could have a lot of fun with this, discussing subsidies to the fishing industry and many other things, but the main point is that if you are talking jobs and economic impact, the oil industry is half of the Gulf economy. Kill that, and you are doing damage too.
For the record, I have no problem with BP getting stuck with the entire bill for cleanup and real damage. I might be okay with some kind of cap on "punitive" damages, or the other ethereal stuff hungry lawyers tend to come up with to tack zeroes onto the end of judgment amounts.
