I have a novel I'm editing and my protag is stranded at a mountain cabin (very nice one). How might they manage internet access? Would it be satellite based? Any problems with Wi-Fi working?
Also, if there is no phone line, how could they communicate with the outside world? I assume cell phone towers would be unlikely. Or are they widespread in the mountains, too? This is in the Rockies, maybe a mile up the mountain above a town. So maybe there would be cell phone towers?
I'm toying with the idea of the cabin owner having had a telephone line buried up to his place. But that would be very expensive, even for someone who is quite well off, I would imagine. Unburied telephone lines would be subject to coming down in heavy snows, I would imagine.
I have major plot areas depending on the communication types.
Any help I can get with these two issues would be awesome. Thanks!
