Number one, I have never called for an end to all regulations, and I challenge you to find any post where I have even implied it.
Number two, we are parsecs beyond the "middle ground." I'm calling for fewer, more precise, and less corrupt regulatory systems. In the end, the market process is the only real disinterested party. Remember, all the abuses you listed happened under heavy regulation. They just figured out ways around them. Make a thousand new ones, and they'll do the same thing, same as politicans do end runs around every form of campaign finance law.
Every damn crisis over my lifetime has been accompanied by trumpets from Washington that they would make sure this would "never happen again."
